My name is Alisha, and I am the owner and Photographer of A Thousand Words Photography.
I have had a love for photography since I was twelve years old, and over time that love began to grow. My parents bought me my first DSLR camera at fifteen years old, which led me to take it everywhere with me, taking pictures of my friends, family, wildlife, landscape, and anything else I found worthy of taking a picture of.
In July of 2017, at twenty-two years old, I enrolled in the Photography Institute of Canada. I completed the online course in two years (I was also working a full time job) and in July of 2019, I received my Diploma.
From then on, I really didn’t do much with my diploma until October of 2021, I had done a couples shoot for my cousin and her fiancé for their “save the date” cards (they’re pictured at the bottom of this page) and that’s when things began to change. She was encouraging me to pursue my passion and skill for photography. She had encouraged me to just start with something as simple as an Instagram page, and the rest would come later.
Back in May of 2021, I lost my father due to heart complications. He was my best friend, and a huge supporter of me and my photography dreams. I remember telling him about the idea of naming my business “A Thousand Words Photography” and he thought that was the most genius thing he’d ever heard. He used to always tell me to go for it and get my name out there and keep taking pictures so I continue to get better and better every day. Both my parents have always been encouraging and supportive, along with my brother and sister in law (fun fact, my sister in law is my biggest hype girl). After a lot of thinking, anxiety, fear, tears, and consideration of all the support from my family and friends, and the memory of my late father, I decided to make an Instagram and Facebook page. Little did I know that it would take off, and I began to be “happily overwhelmed” with how many sessions I was booking!
I’ve come a long way, and I am ready to serve you and capture all your memories. After all, I truly believe that every picture is worth A Thousand Words.
